What To Expect

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a process in which the therapist and client talk and work together to try to resolve the client’s problems. The aim of which is to gain deeper self-awareness. The therapeutic relationship is unique and offers a confidential, non-judgmental space that is for you to explore and express your genuine thoughts and feelings. You will be supported to stand back from your story, and to reflect on your life and experiences openly and honestly. It can be challenging yet can aid you in discovering new possibilities and more rewarding ways of thinking about your life. Your first session is time for you and your therapist to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. During the first session we will explore what brought you to therapy and talk through your history, including your childhood, education, relationships (family, romantic, friends), and your current living situation. We also discuss your goals and expectations of therapy, and discuss a realistic plan for therapy going forward.
